Initiatives on campus
We provide and manage FoodHub, located on Level 3 of the Wentworth building, to support our student community with the cost of living crisis by providing free groceries and other essential items
Introduced Refilled to USYD campus - a sustainable beverage ecosystem that eliminates single-use plastic bottles
Developed a sustainable USYD apparel range with each garment made from 30 plastic bottles available in USYD Store online and on campus, plus all our USYD hoodies are 100% Ethical Australia sourced
We provide a container deposit scheme in four key buildings to capture bottles and cans for recycling
We are committed to the USYD Plastic Free Campus initiative and are working to phase out single-use plastics in our retail venues
We have committed to City of Sydney’s Zero Waste Single Use Plastic Pledge and Love Food Sydney project
We have introduced a community recycling collection hub on Level 2 of the Wentworth building
Sustainable practices at our venues
Supplied by Vittoria Coffee, our coffee is Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade certified, with $1 from every bag sold going directly to OzHarvest
All USU venues, including the USU Food Truck, use BioPak, Bioway and Enviroware compostable tableware and packaging, which includes the elimination of the use of plastic straws
We offer a 50-cent discount when you BYO bowl at Courtyard, Abercrombie and Carslaw
Our bars operate with zero plastic and provide a reusable cup deposit system using bettercup
We have introduced a coffee ground reuse program at our venues
We have eliminated 80% of plastic bottle waste in our venues with the use of The Juggler milk tap system
Our USU Food Truck always provides a minimum of 20% plant-based food options and will always seek to provide options for Halal and gluten free dietary requirements
Event policies
All ticketed events run on campus through our Clubs & Societies program are sold via Humanitix
We have a full ban on balloons at festival events
