Safe Spaces & Accessibility

The USU is committed to providing accessibility and inclusivity for our community in our spaces and venues. Everyone has the right to feel safe and supported while on campus.

Safe Spaces

Ethnocultural Space

The USU Ethnocultural Space is an autonomous safe space located on Ground Floor of Manning House, for those who identify as members of an ethnocultural community or from a culturally or linguistically diverse background.

The USU Ethnocultural Space cannot be used by those who do not identify as culturally or linguistically diverse.

If you have any questions or feedback about the space, please feel free to contact the current USU Ethnocultural portfolio holder Ethan Floyd at [email protected].

International Student Lounge

Our International Student Lounge (ISL) is a dedicated space for international students transitioning into life at the University of Sydney, where both domestic and international students can hang out, study or enjoy free use of the pool tables.

If you have any questions or feedback about the space, please feel free to contact the current USU International Students portfolio holder, Shirley Zhang at [email protected].

Queer Space

The Queer Space is an autonomous room located on Ground Floor of Manning House and is open to all queer-identifying and questioning students.

The room provides a safe place where all people who identify with a queer gender identity/sexuality can relax and hangout in an accepting and inclusive environment.

If you have any questions or feedback about the space, please feel free to contact the current USU Queer portfolio holder, Ethan Floyd at [email protected].

Wom*n’s Space

Wom*n’s Space is a safe location on Level 1, Manning House for wom*n and female identifying students, including cis and trans wom*n.

The room offers an area for wom*n to use for quiet study, breastfeeding, meetings and wom*n’s events. We aim to follow recommendations from the Wom*n’s Department of the National Union of Students to ensure wom*n’s safety and comfort on campus.
