The University does not condone unacceptable behaviour in any aspect of being a student, including in a club setting. If something happened to you or someone you know, please speak to someone. You don’t have to take formal action, but you can talk about the impact it has had on you and what support you need.

Something happened within the club I’m in
The University does not condone unacceptable behaviour in any aspect of being a student, including in a club setting. If you or someone you know has been subjected to sexual violence, hate, bullying or any other form of unacceptable behaviour, you can confidentially speak to someone about what happened, get some wellbeing support and advice on making a complaint if that’s something you’d like to explore. Please be aware you don’t need to make a formal complaint if you don’t want to.
Your Student Wellbeing and Safety Advisor is available to have a confidential chat about what has happened. To find out more, you can email them on [email protected].
You can also contact the Safer Communities Office and speak to a member of their specialist team who are trained in providing immediate responses to students who have been subjected to unacceptable behaviour. I want to make a complaint to USU about inappropriate behaviour
USU handle complaints about misconduct that occurred within a Clubs setting e.g. at a Club event. You can complain to the University about misconduct at Club events too, and any other student-related misconduct. Your Student Wellbeing and Safety Advisor can support you through each step of your complaint to either USU or the University.

To complain to USU, you will start by submitting a complaint in writing to [email protected]. Please tell us:
What club or society you are in
Who is involved
What happened and where it happened
If any, what informal resolution attempts were made and the outcome/s
Information about your complaint will only be shared with other people if they need to know the information to progress with your complaint. For safeguarding reasons, there are times when we need to share information about your complaint without your consent. This may involve informing the University of your complaint and passing on relevant details so they can take any necessary further action.
An appropriate member of staff from USU will review your complaint and assess the next steps, potentially put measures in place to protect you and others, and come to an outcome on your complaint.
If you’re unhappy with any of these decisions, you can appeal them, or you can complain about them to the National Student Ombudsman. Please contact [email protected] for information on making an appeal.

Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA) offer a free, confidential clinic with experienced counsellors available to speak to you. If you’d like to access support from RPA, you don’t need to also speak to anyone at the University about what happened to you. Campus Security can also arrange transport for you to RPA. IS
