AGENDA OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE SYDNEY UNIVERSITY SURGICAL SOCIETY

  4. CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS
    1. THE FOLLOWING AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION ARE PROPOSED:
      1. Addition of 4.8; 4.8.1; 4.8.2 in accordance with mandatory NSW Health, Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and FMH SMP regulation, policy, and procedure as follows:

4.8 Where a Committee Member has breached Faculty of Medicine and Health Professionalism Requirements, Sydney Medical School Provisions, NSW Health Code of Conduct, Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency Requirements, or any other Policy and Procedure relevant to the Committee Member as a Doctor of Medicine candidate or healthcare professional, the Executive may remove said Committee Member without prior warning.

  1. Where a Council Member has breached any Requirements, Regulations, Policies, or Procedures while conducting their Society duties, or representing the Society, the Executive will document the breach, and if deemed appropriate as per Faculty of Medicine and Health Provisions (Management of alleged breaches of Professionalism Requirements Provisions), escalate to relevant parties including but not limited to the School of Surgery, Clinical School Education Support Officers and Administration, and Sydney Medical Program.
  2. Where a Council Member has breached any Requirements, Regulations, Policies, or Procedures as a Doctor of Medicine candidate while not representing the Society, they must inform the Executive at the first possible instance.
  3. Addition of 5.1.4.1; 5.1.4.2 to clarify role as follows:
    1. Act as the spokesperson for the Society, and Year Four (4) cohort in Faculty of Medicine and Health School of Surgery meetings.
    2. Act as the spokesperson for Professional Bodies including but not limited to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and any Specialty Colleges, other University Societies and Faculty, and other Surgical Interest Groups including but not limited to the Australasian Students' Surgical Association.
  4. Amendment of 5.2.2 to have gender inclusive wording as follows:
    1. Liaise with the President and support them in any roles and responsibilities necessary to carry out the efficient running of the Society.
  5. Amendment of 5.5.4 to further clarify role as follows:
    1. Create and manage media and publications, including photography and videography, posters, logos, certificates, booklets and the like, for Society events.
  6. Amendment of 10.2 to match wording of 10.1 as follows:
    1. The Committee shall be elected at a General Meeting each year, held in the month of February each year.
  7. Promotion of 10.12 to 10.3 for clarity; amendment to reflect addition of 4.8 and the length of candidature for the Doctor of Medicine degree as follows:
    1. In order to stand for election, candidates must not have been removed from the Society Council as per Section 4.5, Section 4.7, or Section 4.8 in any preceding Society terms during their Doctor of Medicine candidature.
  8. ELECTION OF EXECUTIVES
    1. APPOINTMENT OF RETURNING OFFICER
    2. NOMINATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED AND VOTED ON FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS:
      1. PRESIDENT
      2. VICE-PRESIDENT
      3. SECRETARY
      4. TREASURER
    3. IN ORDER TO STAND FOR ELECTION, CANDIDATES MUST BE NOMINATED, THEIR NOMINATION SECONDED AND THEY MUST ACCEPT THIS NOMINATION. IN ORDER TO BE NOMINATED FOR, OR ELECTED TO, ANY EXECUTIVE POSITIONS, CANDIDATES MUST HAVE PREVIOUSLY SERVED FOR A MINIMUM OF ONE (1) YEAR ON THE COUNCIL.
