From Strangers to Community: Chinese Students in Australian Higher Education
We are pleased to invite Dr. Jinqi Xu to give a talk on the educational experiences of Chinese international students, who form one of the largest student communities in Australia. Drawing on her in-depth research, Dr. Xu examines students’ everyday study practices—highlighting which practices they retained, which they adapted, and how they navigated a new cultural and academic environment. She traces their growth, the challenges they encounter, and the ways they adopt and reshape practices to create successful learning journeys.
This session will present key insights from Dr. Xu’s work, offering students, educators, and researchers both practical and scholarly perspectives on navigating cultural and academic transitions, building resilience, and fostering meaningful learning outcomes for Chinese international students. The session will run for one hour, consisting of a 30-minute presentation by Dr. Xu followed by a 30-minute Q&A.
