Hobbies and Interests
I’m Leo Moore, and I’m a second-year student studying Arts and Law, majoring in History. When I’m not busy with Uni, I love getting out and exploring – whether that’s bushwalking, swimming, or getting out and about in Sydney and seeing everything it has to offer. I also love being involved in our campus community, going to every clubs & society event I possibly can, and making new friends at our great university!

Candidate Policy Statement

We all know what uni life is like. But what if I told you that we can make it so much better? So much… Moore? University shouldn’t just be a place that you come to get your degree. It should be a thriving community that supports and uplifts all students. Our student union needs a candidate with vision, one who can deliver on their promises and make our campus truly great. That’s why these USU Elections, you need to VOTE LEO FOR MOORE!

I’m Leo Moore, and in my time at uni I have seen first-hand how our campus culture is lacking, and how it can be improved. That’s why I’m running for USU, with a policy platform aimed at delivering MOORE for all students.

From BRINGING BACK CAMPUS LIFE by reviving our great bars and food courts, to ENSURING STUDENT WELLBEING by increasing the USU’s service provision and expanding its Safety Conference, all the way to BOOSTING CLUBS AND SOCIETIES by increasing funding and reducing red tape, my policies are comprehensive, focused, and visionary.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and VOTE FOR MOORE, because you deserve it.

Describe the key roles and responsibilities of a USU Board Director.

The role of a Board Director is to oversee and guide the USU, providing leadership and governance while directing the Union’s initiatives. First and foremost, a USU Board Director’s number one responsibility should be to put the interests of students first, and ensure that the USU is delivering for the student body. Along with that comes a responsibility to work collaboratively with other board members, and more broadly to get out there as a student leader and make sure that the needs of the student body and the USU are being met.

How will you ensure that you can commit the time required to be an effective Board Director?

To ensure that I can deliver on my obligations as a Board Director, I will utilise my time management and planning skills, ensuring that I’m prioritising my responsibilities as Board Director. This will involve allocating sufficient time each week for Board meetings, committee work, and any additional tasks, while remaining flexible and proactive in managing other competing commitments. Having had previous experience working full time in a demanding environment, I am confident that I will be able to approach my role at the USU with the diligence and maturity required for the position.

How will you represent the best interests of the student community, while also representing the best interests of the USU?

To represent the best interests of the student community, I will engage directly with students, listening to their concerns and feedback, while ensuring that their needs are a consideration in any union decision-making. At the same time, I will work with my fellow directors to ensure that the USU remains financially sustainable and operationally effective. By working with both student and union interests in mind, I will be able to ensure that the USU can continue to thrive while delivering tangible benefits to the student community.

Identify an area of the USU where you would like to see improvement and explain how this will be of benefit to the organisation and/or students.

I believe that the USU can do so much more to develop a meaningful student community here on campus. From a practical standpoint, that means removing the barriers that keep students from participating in campus culture - whether that is through lowering prices from USU outlets, hosting more fun, accessible events, or by refurbishing the venues that historically have been places for students to get together. As the union for students, by students, it is imperative that the USU takes a leading role in bringing campus culture back to Sydney Uni.
