Other Interests
I grew up on a quiet farm in Adelaide and moved to Sydney last year. I was raised by first-generation Australian-Vietnamese parents who gave up a lot for us and reminded us to always try to help people where we can. My faith in God keeps me grounded, reminding me everyday that I am here to serve, and to not worry too much haha. I love everything from AFL, musicals, and getting stuck into a good book. I'm also always up for a chat!! I want uni to be a place of love where we can all learn and live!

Describe the key roles and responsibilities of a USU Board Director.
A USU Board Director represents and advocates for the best interests of students. This involves overseeing the organisation’s operations to ensure it delivers a high quality and accessible campus experience, while also being willing to question decisions and voice dissent where necessary. Directors are responsible for maintaining strong governance, including monitoring systems of control, accountability, and financial oversight, to ensure transparency and integrity. Importantly, they must actively engage with the student body, all groups, to understand our needs and ensure the USU remains responsive, inclusive, and genuinely representative of all of us. Ultimately, it should be a position of service.
How will you ensure that you can commit the time required to be an effective Board Director?
I know this role takes consistent time and attention, not just good intentions. I’ve managed a full mix of study, leadership, and extracurricular commitments before, but I also recognise this tremendous responsibility. If elected, I will treat Board duties as a priority and build my week around them, not fit them in around everything else. That means setting aside fixed time and being disciplined about showing up fully prepared and fully present. I am willing to step back from other commitments if needed. I am fully committed to doing this role properly and reliably :)
How will you represent the best interests of the student community, while also representing the best interests of the USU?
As a student-centric organisation, I believe the best interests of the USU and the student community should fundamentally align. I would work to strengthen the connection between students and the Board through open communication and genuine listening on both sides. I would advocate for decisions that reflect student needs while recognising the importance of strong governance and long-term sustainability. Transparency in decision-making and accessible feedback mechanisms would be central to this approach, ensuring students can see how their voices shape outcomes. My hope is to represent students in a way that allows us to thrive for future generations.
Identify an area of the USU where you would like to see improvement and explain how this will be of benefit to the organisation and/or students.
I would like to see the depth and diversity of student representation in decision making improved, and consistently translated into real outcomes. Consultation happens, but there is still a gap between hearing students and genuinely reflecting the full range of lived experiences, especially low SES, international, regional, and culturally diverse students.
I care about this because I know what it feels like when decisions feel distant from your reality. Strengthening this would build trust and make students feel properly heard. For the USU, it would mean more honest, inclusive, and grounded decision making that reflects the community it exists for.
