Consent Check In!
Content Warning: Discussions about consent may be triggering for some people. This includes those who have experienced or are experiencing sexual violence or other forms of trauma. Support is available. You can find information on support services at the end of this page.

This Welcome Fest, USU has partnered with the University of Sydney's Safer Communities Office to bring Consent Check In! – an interactive activation co-designed with students to spark conversations about consent, healthy relationships and preventing harmful behaviour before it occurs.
What is it?
Consent Check In! is an interactive walk-through experience that simulates a convenience store - but with a twist!
As you make your way through, you'll pick up free goodies while working through everyday scenarios that explore the importance of everyday consent. Along the way, you'll be invited to think about how you might respond in different situations and reflect on the choices we make in our everyday interactions.
Before you leave, you’ll receive a receipt that contains important information about boundaries, respect, healthy relationships and free supports available to you as a University of Sydney student.
There will be trained staff and student ambassadors present throughout the stall, if you’d like to have a chat, ask a question or learn more.
Whether you're new to the University of Sydney or a returning student, it's a fun and low-pressure opportunity to reflect on how consent shows up in everyday interactions and unpack the grey areas.
Our goal
At the University of Sydney and USU, we're committed to preventing gender-based violence and creating a community where everyone feels respected, included and safe. Consent Check In! is one of the ways we're bringing that commitment to life - through an interactive experience that gets people talking, encourages reflection, and explores how consent, communication and boundaries play out in real-life situations.
Welcome Fest is often where university life begins. It's where you're meeting new people, joining clubs, trying new things and finding your place on campus. The connections and habits we build during these first few weeks can shape our experiences for the rest of the year. By having conversations about consent, communication and looking out for one another early, we can help create a community where healthy relationships are the norm, everyone feels welcome, and respect is something we all share responsibility for.
Looking ahead
Consent Check In! is just one of many initiatives supporting our ongoing work to prevent gender-based violence through education, awareness and student engagement. Throughout 2026 and beyond, we'll continue delivering events, campaigns and other initiatives that keep these conversations going.
This activation, like all future activations, has been co-designed with University of Sydney students to ensure the messaging and purpose align with student values.
