The University of Sydney Philosophy Society
PhilSoc is the official student-run society for the Department of Philosophy at USYD. Since our establishment in 1975, PhilSoc has been an integral part of the incredible philosophical education and experience on offer at USYD. Whether your interests lie in practical or more abstract philosophy, our weekly events will have something for you.
Events are judgment free, all-inclusive and entirely open ended! If you can communicate in a respectful and discerning manner then you are welcome at PhilSoc!
PhilSoc holds events weekly, with in-person ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฐ๐๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ being our bread-and-butter. Discussions typically orbit around an exciting topic with a dozen or so questions to catalyse discussion.
Do you wonder about how to live? How to create meaningful change? How to help others and the environment? Do you ever think about logic, ethics, metaphysics, aesthetics, linguistics, political theory, philosophy of mind, epistemology, or meta-philosophy? This is just a limited list of areas that can come up in our weekly events.
Interested in publishing your work? The ๐๐ง๐๐ค ๐๐ช๐ข ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฃ๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ผ๐๐ผ๐ฝ๐ต๐ is what youโre after. Run by PhilSoc, itโs the place to formally share your insight and ideas, and in doing so, hopefully provoke further inquiry.
PhilSoc hosts weekly discussions in the McRae Seminar Room (S418), from 18:00-21:00, on Tuesdays. Which will have a variety of topics from week to week. PhilSoc also provides pizza to our members at our weekly events.
