Nushu Culture & Research Association
The Society aims to connect people of the University of Sydney and the wider Sydney community mainly with a form of writing known as Nüshu, originated in Jiangyong County, China, where it is practised and passed down only by a small group of Chinese women living in the County. Nüshu’s literal definition, being “women’s writing”, in the past, was a symbol of Chinese women’s quite struggle against the oppression of the patriarchal society. Now, it is a contemporary symbol of gender equality.
