Club Membership Types
All USU Clubs must have Ordinary and Associate Membership types, or equivalents. Clubs may have additional membership types. All membership types must require a current USU ID.
Ordinary Membership
Ordinary Members are USU members who have joined your Club and have a relevant affiliation to the USU – this includes University of Sydney students. Only Ordinary Members may hold Executive positions, nominate others for Executive positions, vote in elections or vote on motions of the society.
The Core Executive Positions of President, Treasurer, and Secretary must be held by three separate Ordinary Members.
Associate Membership
Any person who does not qualify for Ordinary Membership but has purchased a USU Rewards membership is eligible for Associate Membership. Associate Members cannot hold Executive positions, nominate others for Executive positions, vote in elections, or vote on motions.
Honorary Membership
Honorary Membership is an optional type of membership subject to inclusion in a Club’s constitution.
Honorary Membership may be granted or terminated by a two-thirds majority vote at a General Meeting. Honorary members are only eligible to hold Executive positions, nominate others for Executive positions, vote in elections, or vote on motions of the society if they also qualify for Ordinary membership. A list of Honorary Members must be maintained by clubs with this membership type.
Additional Membership Types
Clubs can define additional optional membership types or tiers in their constitution. These options can be added through the constitutional amendment process. Additional membership types or tiers must not bestow any of the privileges of Ordinary Membership to people who would not otherwise be eligible for Ordinary Membership.
