2026 Transitional Governance Arrangements

From the USU President: The USU is currently finalizing the transition from its unincorporated state to an incorporated entity (USU Ltd). For the avoidance of doubt, the 2026 USU election is being conducted under the Constitution, Regulations and other governing documents of the current unincorporated USU.  


As part of this transition, the Board of USU Ltd has resolved that, for the purposes of Part E of the USU Ltd Constitution, the outcome of this election will also satisfy the 2026 election requirements for directors of USU Ltd. 

 

As a result, candidates successfully elected in the 2026 USU Board Election shall, subject to their consent and eligibility, hold office as directors of the unincorporated USU in accordance with the current USU governing documents and, from 1 July 2026, will also hold office as directors of USU Ltd in accordance with its Constitution, until the winding up of the unincorporated USU is completed.

Transition to USU Ltd
From 1 April 2026, USyd Student Union Ltd (ABN 52 688 637 818) became the organisation running the services, programs and activities previously operated by the University of Sydney Union (ABN 73 818 179 759). As part of the transition, existing USU membership benefits will continue to be recognised until 30 June 2026 in line with the transition arrangements. USU Rewards benefits will continue only for members who join USU Ltd. Membership of USU Ltd is separate and only takes effect in accordance with the USU Ltd constitution.
