The University of Sydney Philosophy Society
PhilSoc is the official student-run society for the Department of Philosophy at USYD. Since our establishment in 1975, PhilSoc has been an integral part of the incredible philosophical experience on offer at USYD. Whether your interests lie in more practical or more abstract philosophy, our weekly events will have something for you.
Why join us?
Our events are judgment free, all inclusive and entirely open ended! If you can communicate in a respectful and discerning manner then you are welcome at PhilSoc!
Famous FOMO experiences on offer
Do you wonder about how to live? Why anything matters? How to help others and the environment? If so, then our 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗽𝗵𝘆 𝗢𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 seminar series is what you're after.
Do you ever think about logic, ethics, metaphysics, aesthetics, linguistics, political theory, philosophy of mind, epistemology, or meta-philosophy? If so, you'll love our 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲 seminar series which aims to delve into the depths and complexities of philosophical inquiry.
PhilSoc also holds regular in-person and online 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. They typically orbit around an exciting topic with a dozen or so thought-provoking questions provided.
We also hold student-run 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺𝘀 in which any philosophically interesting material can be brought and shared in a group setting. The material needn’t be fully developed or researched; you don't even have to agree with it! If it’s philosophically relevant, bring it along and share with the group!
Are you interested in publishing your work? The 𝙀𝙧𝙜𝙤 𝙎𝙪𝙢 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗽𝗵𝘆 is what you’re after. Run by PhilSoc, it is the place to formally share your philosophical insight and ideas, and in doing so, hopefully provoke further inquiry.
Meet ups & Community
Whether it’s our seminar series, discussions, forum’s, staff meet-and-greets or socials, our community lives and breathes philosophy. It is a place to learn, connect, meet new people, challenge and be challenged. See you there.
