USU KITCHEN: HOW TO MAKE DONUTS
4 cups plain flour
1/2 cup caster sugar
3 tbsp baking powder
1 tbsp salt
3/4 tbsp ground nutmeg
2 to 3 eggs
2 cups milk
1 tbsp vanilla essence or vanilla extract
200g melted butter
2L canola oil or vegetable oil
Doughnut cinnamon sugar
1 cup caster sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Place saucepan with oil 3/4 up to the top, heat to about 160°
Add flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, ground nutmeg and vanilla essence/extract.
Make a well, add wet ingredients (milk, melted butter, eggs) to the middle of the bowl mix together.
Make sure there are no lumps in the batter.
Spoon mix into the hot oil.
Turn donuts and ensure both sides are golden.
Remove from oil and leave on kitchen paper to cool a little.
Mix cinnamon and sugar together and cover donuts with to serve.
