About Us
The USU is a not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to be the heart of campus life and we've been doing that since 1874.
We began as a humble society for student debaters and we're proud to be one of few remaining independent, student-led organisations in Australia. The Board of Directors is composed of 14 Directors, including 11 student Directors elected at the Annual Elections each year, two Senate-appointed Directors and the Immediate Past President.
USU provides key programs, services and facilities that enhance campus life for the many thousands who join and interact with us. All income the USU receives is reinvested in our organisation for the benefit of current and future members of the University community.
Our Vision
To provide the best university experience in Australia.
Our Mission
Celebrate the diversity of our communities and engage with them to deliver inclusive programs, events and services in our safe and welcoming spaces.
The USU is
committed to promoting gender equality and
practices an
affirmative action policy
.
Acknowledgement of Country
USU’s Acknowledgement of Country in its short form is as follows: The USU would like to acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, upon whose stolen land we meet today. The USU recognises that this land was never terra nullius — the land belonging to these peoples was never ceded, given up, bought or sold. The USU must consult with the community and consider Indigenous voices and experiences in all that we do. We pay our respects to Aboriginal Elders past, present and emerging, and we extend this acknowledgement to any other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people here with us today.
